I can't really tell you where I'm from. I have had four passports (I only have 2 now) and I have lived in 8 countries. Some people say that I'm cosmopolitan, others say that I'm just being pretentious, but I can truly say that I don't have a home country. If home is where the heart is, then home is here because my husband is here. Canada isn't a bad place to live, and it's quite stable geographically and politically, which is nice.
Sometimes I just say that I'm "colonial". I have lived in several countries that were colonies of Britain or other countries, and my accent is RP (received pronunciation) so I fit in that category best. I speak a few other languages besides weird colonial English. I'm learning Canadian English, I can usually speak Australian English... Okay, those are accents or dialects. I can speak French pretty well, and I speak baby Japanese. I've studied other languages, both as a second language (being immersed) and as a foreign language (just studying from a distance) and I definitely prefer to study languages in context, in the country they are spoken.
As for WHO I am... I'm a teacher. I'm an artist. I'm a musician. I'm a tango dancer. I'm a daughter and a wife, but not a mother yet. I've been a model, a lab assistant, a cartoonist, an editor, a ceramic painter, a photocopy monkey and at a loose end. I love trying new things. I don't like having to do the same thing over and over again. I have the best job in the world because I get to meet new people from all different cultures and countries, and this makes every class different and interesting. I'm a very lucky woman.
