About 2 years ago I was in the Save on Foods with my husband. He was wearing shorts and a T-shirt with writing on it that says: "trust me, I'm a doctor". I was walking with hem when an old woman stopped him and said:" Are you a doctor?". He said: "yes". She said " I do not think you are!!". In fact, she was underestimating us. She justified her reaction by saying that if we were educated, I should not wear a scarf and a long dress that covers my body at the same time that my husband's legs are shown because my legs are more beautiful than his! She said if you want to study, study in your country. She did not even wait to listen to us.
She was too rude, and I was shocked. That was the first time some one mistreated us and I hope it is the last.
Because Canada is a multicultural place where people are free to practice their religions and cultures, we did not expect to be insulted.

Yes this is democritic country of Canada, you are safe at here. You can show your beautiful hair and your slender shape for your classmates, theachers and friends.
hahahahaha I liked that!
appreciate your comment. But I do not have a problem with wearing my long dress and scarf. I am very proud of my wearing.Living in a democratic country does not mean that I want to change my culture and faith. The problem is not in me, the problem is in the people who are supposed to be educated but do not appreciate cultural and religious differences.
I think modesty is a virtue, in women AND in men. I very much appreciate that my father and my husband do not expose themselves in public. Neither of them wears shorts, except in private at home, or at the beach, and they most certainly do not remove their shirts in public. I find it rather distressing in summer in Edmonton to see half-dressed young (or not so young) men. I wish they'd keep their shirts on!
Asma, this country is realy the best place to live with what you believe freely. that incedent is an extraordinary case that I hope it wouldn't change the image that you have of this great country. Every ' rule' has its exceptances...Take it easy.
