Factors which effect your ESL test

It was not so difficult, but it depends on how lucky you are. If the topic on writing is familiar to you, you can write with no difficulty, but if it is unknown to you, then it could be a big problem.

There was a problem on last parts of the listening test. The voice could be barely heard like an old men who was almost going to die was speaking.

Other parts were OK ! Whether you are good or bad in English, I can only say to you GOOD LUCK!

I don't have any more energy to concentrate on my studying English. I wander why all languages are not the same? Learning a language is a really time and energy consuming.

Let's Smile:)

Experiencing maybe the best teacher to make people mature, maturer, maturerer... To spoil yourself in depression leads to nothing. Keep in mind to move on anyway with action and positive thinking.

Where Was Santa Claus Born?

Before I forget, here is the some info about Santa Claus..
And, please wish me luck for the test:)

The American image of Santa Claus was further elaborated by illustrator Thomas Nast, who depicted a rotund Santa for Christmas issues of Harper's magazine from the 1860s to the 1880s. Nast added such details as Santa's workshop at the North Pole and Santa's list of the good and bad children of the world. A human-sized version of Santa Claus, rather than the elf of Moore's poem, was depicted in a series of illustrations for Coca-Cola advertisements introduced in 1931. In modern versions of the Santa Claus legend, only his toy-shop workers are elves. Rudolph, the ninth reindeer, with a red and shiny nose, was invented in 1939 by an advertising writer for the Montgomery Ward Company.

In looking for the historical roots of Santa Claus, one must go very deep in the past. One discovers that Santa Claus as we know him is a combination of many different legends and mythical creatures.

The basis for the Christian-era Santa Claus is Bishop Nicholas of Smyrna (Izmir), in what is now Turkey. Nicholas lived in the 4th century A.D. He was very rich, generous, and loving toward children. Often he gave joy to poor children by throwing gifts in through their windows.

The Orthodox Church later raised St. Nicholas, miracle worker, to a position of great esteem. It was in his honor that Russia's oldest church, for example, was built. For its part, the Roman Catholic Church honored Nicholas as one who helped children and the poor. St. Nicholas became the patron saint of children and seafarers. His name day is December 6th.

In the Protestant areas of central and northern Germany, St. Nicholas later became known as der Weinachtsmann. In England he came to be called Father Christmas. St. Nicholas made his way to the United States with Dutch immigrants, and began to be referred to as Santa Claus.

Ice and snow sculpture in Harbin, a city in north of china

My hometown is Harbin, and it is said sister city with Edmonton because there is so much similar with Edmonton such as weather, geographic latitude. Especially Harbin is famous for snow and ice sculpture. Ice and snow scene really looks splendid, and made by manual work, including artists. Ice and Snow festival is held in Harbin every winter; however, unfortunately, it will be meltd away before March. Large of numbers of tourists from all over the world are attracted to visit the city in winter. it is worthy for travel there.

NAIT guidelines for social networking

Hey! We have rules!

Okay, not rules. Guidelines. Read'em.
http://www.nait.ca/naitline2008_43741.htm

Here are the main points:
  • Be careful how much information you divulge about yourself or others. Posting personal information could potentially lead to unwanted attention and could contribute to identity fraud.

  • You should not post details which you or others might find embarrassing if seen by family members or a future employer.

  • If you contribute comments about an identifiable individual, you should bear in mind that anyone anywhere will be able to see what you have posted, including the individual the comments are directed toward.

  • Do not make offensive or derogatory remarks about others, including fellow staff members and do not post obscene or derogatory images. Before participating in any online community, understand that anything posted online is available to anyone in the world. Any text or photo placed online is completely out of your control the moment it is placed online – even if you limit access to your site.

  • Be aware that many employers and post-secondary schools monitor these sites.

  • Be aware that wrongful conduct in a virtual environment, may result in the same legal consequences as wrongful conduct in the real world, including potential legal liability to parties who are claiming to have been harmed by such wrongful conduct.

First snow

I love the first day of snow. I love it even more when I get to stay home, eat good food, and look at the pretty snow from a nice warm house. mmmmmm

I'm sure that I won't love the snow in January. I'm fairly sure I will hate the snow in February, and I'll probably loathe it if it is still around in March and April. However, right now it is still new and soft and fluffy and pretty. Better still, it is supposed to be 7 degrees C tomorrow, so all the snow is likely to melt away.

I might be the absolute definition of a fair-weather friend.

Funny Story

Beer guy
One certain night a guy had been out on a big drunk before he went to a university, and he couldn’t get home until really late and had an early class the next day - a lab to be precise. He managed to drag himself out of bed and made it to class. The lab they were in that day had wooden seats and were very uncomfortable. So halfway through the lab he drifted off to sleep. All of a sudden he awoke to the farting sound of some classmate in the class. He looked around and started laughing along with everybody else. Then he realized everybody was looking at him and laughing. He was the one that fart while he was asleep and he woke himself up.

I just worried if I cannot find any solvents what I should do:(
First, I have no time to go back to Japan.

The eternel torpic: ESL Assess Exams

Recently. I have done many exams at Nait. In addition to doing midterm exams, I have done ESL assessment tests and upgrading placement exams( reading, essay, and maths). I got the results. ESL Reading is one of my strenghts. Iwas sure that I did well. I was waiting for high marks, yet I obtained C-(55-59). What a surprise! Something sounded suspicious at the end of the Reading assess. A booklet missed. One student didn't handle in his/her booklet. Who and why? The enigma remains unsolved. At Listening assess, I got C. It's what I was expecting. That's my weakness. However, little by little, my listening skills are getting improved. About Speaking assess, I obtained B+. Finally, I got A- at writing assess. No wonder, this is my favourite and secrete weapon. In total, I have collected 2 fails and 2 successes. As it has been seen, the assessment exam is not an invincible monster. All my fellow classmates are capable of destroying that powerless"moster" made from paper. Be strong, my friends. The assess exam is afraid of you. Good luck to all of you. I will book another appointment possibly for December or later for a second attempt. Victory is on our side; we get power to accomplish any goal. Just do it.

Life is this.

When your scream goes no where, when you have to accepet the dictation, when for better future you should be silent, when you cannot do any thing, when you should be patient, when you see unfair happening, when....
Life is this, every where...
